Barbara Matthews (left), 102 years of age and a 57 year member of the DAR chatting it up at a luncheon with Betty-Jane Lee (right), 96 years of age and 78 year member of the DAR!!  What a beautiful picture!  Thank you for sharing this Betty-Jane!

At the May general meeting of Estahakee Chapter, Betty-Jane Lee was presented with a certificate for her 77 years of membership in DAR!  Betty-Jane initially joined DAR in Greencastle, Indiana in 1939 just before her 19th birthday.  Her mother had become a DAR member in 1919.  The NSDAR Years-of-Membership Certificate for 75 years was presented to her two years ago; the chapter wanted to recognize Betty-Jane for the additional two years… and still counting!  In 1996 Betty-Jane transferred to Estahakee Chapter when she and her husband moved to Florida.  She has served DAR in several capacities at the chapter level, most recently as Flag Chairman from 2004 - 2010.  Betty-Jane is known for often wearing a patriotically-adorned hat to DAR events.  At age 96, Betty-Jane enjoys attending DAR meetings.  At home, she continues to work on her genealogy on the computer and has five supplementals to date.

Congratulations to Betty Jane!

On July 2nd,  Barbara Matthews was presented with her 50-year NSDAR Years-of-Membership Certificate.  It  just happened to be the day before her 102nd birthday!   Barbara was delighted with the certificate as she has always loved DAR!  Initially joining DAR in Rhinebeck, NY in 1965 and then transferring to Estahakee Chapter in Boca Raton, FL in 1977, Barbara served as Estahakee Chapter Regent from 1988-1990.  Although she is no longer able to research her genealogy, Barbara still enjoys talking about her family tree and proudly displayed a box containing her DAR pins all still on a ribbon.
